The method

The Yoga Sūtras, composed by the wise Patañjali between the 5th and 2nd centuries B.C., is the text in which, in 196 aphorisms, the science of yoga was systematized for the first time. The practice and teaching of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar are based on these aphorisms, in which the path that the practitioner must follow to achieve the goal of yoga is presented. It is a path consisting of eight stages: on the foundations of universal ethical principles and individual discipline, yoga postures, regulation of breathing and interiorization of the senses are practiced, leading the mind to concentration, meditation and a higher level of consciousness.
